HPE released VM Explorer 6.3 introducing the support for vSphere 6.5 and the single email recovery for Microsoft Exchange feature.
The new version moved to .NET Framework 4.6.2 platform and this is a mandatory prerequisite to install HPE VM Explorer 6.3. If applications running on a Hyper-V host don't support .NET 4.6.2, the Agent won't be installed.
What's new
To keep the product up to date with the newest technologies, version 6.3 introduces some new features:
Supported environments
Added support for the following environments:
- VMware ESXi 6.5
- EXT4 64bit file system in file level restore
Exchange 2013 and Exchange 2016 e-mail recovery
With the new release administrators can now perform item (e-mail) level recovery from the backup of a VM containing Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 or 2016.
Amazon S3 compatible storage target
It's now possible to configure a new cloud storage S3 compatible as target to store backups. The new feature can be configured in the Cloud Storage Targets section when adding a new server.
Virtual Disk Service enablement enhancements
VD Services are now enabled on all hosts by default if VDDK service is enabled. This feature leverages VMware VADP (vStorage APIs for Data Protection) for CBT enabling faster and more efficient backups/replications, thus saving storage space.
VADP is not supported with free editions of ESXi.
Task Scheduler frequency enhancements
Added the option to schedule backups every 15 minutes and 30 minutes. This allows to run a more frequent replications to stay up to date with DR copy.
Change default backup type to Incremental
Incremental Backup/Replication are selected by default if VDDK service is enabled. Incremental backups transfer only changed data to the next backup saving space storage and reducing the backup time.
To install VDDK service, go to Admin menu and select Manuals > Enabling Virtual Disk Service (VD Service).
Added Sweet32 vulnerability checks
The Sweet32 is a vulnerability in the use of the Triple DES (3DES) encryption algorithm in the TLS protocol. The issue doesn't affect SSL Certificates and they don't need to be renewed, reissued, or reinstalled.
