NAKIVO announced the new upcoming version of NAKIVO Backup & Replication 7.2, the backup software solution to protect VMware, Hyper-V, and AWS EC2 environments.
The new version introduces some new features that complete the already rich set of capabilities the application offers.
What's new
Most interesting features in the new release are related to MS-SQL Server with the introduction of log truncation and items restore.
VM Backup Appliance Based on Asustor NAS
In addition to QNAP, Synology and Western Digital NAS, the new release now supports also Asustor NAS.
Backup software, hardware, storage, and data deduplication are kept within the same device increasing the VM backup and replication speed by up to 2X compared with a VM-based backup solution.
Microsoft SQL Log Truncation
The transaction log files are an important component of Microsoft SQL Server since they store all database transactions and in case of failure they are essential for the data recovery process. If these files are not monitored, they grow over time filling precious storage space and causing the SQL server crash.
To prevent log files to grow forever, version 7.2 introduces the Microsoft SQL Log Truncation feature that automatically truncates log files after a successful VM backup or replica is made.
Instant Object Recovery for Microsoft SQL
Accidental deletion, database corruption, repercussions of ransomware or other types of malware to data stored in the MS-SQL database can cause lot of problems to the business.
With the introduction of the Instant Object Recovery for Microsoft SQL, you can easily recover individual SQL server objects (databases and tables) back to the SQL Server (source or a different server) directly from the deduplicated and compressed VM backups.
The process is pretty simple. From the wizard you have to specify the Recovery server and the SQL instance to process.
Then you have to select the items to recover.
Specify the recovery options to recover the data you actually need. Data you can recover depend on the RPO of your backup job.
Calendar Dashboard
A new cool feature introduced in version 7.2 is the Calendar Dashboard where you can view all your jobs on a calendar and quickly find free slots in a backup window. New backup jobs can be scheduled directly from the calendar in order to have a global view and the duration. Calendars are also integrated right into the job wizard.
Flexible Job Scheduler
It's now possible to add multiple schedules to a single job in order to run same backup job on different time.
The release date for version 7.2 of NAKIVO Backup & Replication is still unknown.
