Nakivo Backup & Replication announced the upcoming version 7.3 of its backup solution for VMware, Hyper-V, and AWS EC2 environments introducing the Deduplication Appliance support.
Data deduplication is a specific data compression technique for eliminating duplicate copies of repeating data retaining on storage only one unique instance of data. A pointer to the unique data copy replaces redundand data blocks allowing to reduce backup size by saving only unique data blocks to the backup repository.
Deduplication Appliance support
The upcoming new version 7.3 will introduce the support for enterprise-grade deduplication appliances such as EMC Data Domain, HP StoreOnce, NEC Hydrastor, Quantum DXi, and other similar appliances, which can be used as a backup target.
Nakivo provides a special backup repository type with an architecture optimized for working with deduplication devices. Using this repository type, backup performance are dramatically improved when VM data are backed up to a deduplication appliance.
Nakivo confirms once again its effort in the continuous development of the product to improve the functionality adding every time new and interesting features.
