Veeam revealed the new features that will be available with the next release of Veeam VBR (Backup & Replication) and Veeam VBO (Backup for Microsoft 365) products.
With these new releases, Veeam further extends the feature set available in these products.
Veeam VBR (Backup & Replication)
Next release of Veeam Backup & Replication (currently version 12) will provide the following new features and enhancements.
New features
- Veeam CDP - added new capabilities such as SureReplica, Planned Failover, File-Level recovery.
- PowerPC - expanded the PowerPC support (Linux Agent, SAP Hana plug-in).
- Syslog - Backup & Replication and VeeamONE products can now send logs to syslog systems.
- KMS - added the support for KMS via KIMP protocol.
- IBM Db2 - integration with IBM Db2.
- PostgreSQL - added the Instant Recovery capability.
- Dell Data Domain - after a long wait, the upcoming release will support the Data Domain Immutability.
- HPE Catalyst - added support for Copy Immutability.
Object Storage
- Backup - backup to Veeam repositories or directly to tape.
- Buckets - added the capability of restoring entire buckets (permissions, attributes, tags).
- Granular restore - restore individual objects or specific object versions.
- More - immutability, object versions archive, backup copy.
Secure Restore
Currently in Veeam VBR v12, backups restored to production can be scanned against malwares only in post-process mode.
- Post-process - although post-process allows to detect dormant threats and deep offline scans, the restore process can take long time since every backup needs to be scanned against malwares.
Next Veeam VBR release will allow the administrators to perform also the inline detection approach.
- Inline detection - instant identification of potentially unsafe backups, all backups can be analyzed with a little impact on performance, no third-party tools are required (but can be used as data sources) since the needed tool is built-in. The drawback side of this approach is that ransomware can be detected only after it has become active.
Veeam VBO (Backup for Microsoft 365)
Version 7.0 is the latest available release for Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to protect Microsoft 365 environment.
Security enhancements
- MFA for Console and Explorers - to enforce security upcoming new version will support MFA.
- Immutability - support for Immutability also for primary backup. The current version supports immutability for Backup Copy only.
Added support
- Shared and private Teams channels.
- Public Folders (Modern Authentication).
Scalability
- Proxy Pools and Linux Proxies support.
- Improved performance.
The new Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 versions should be released in the second half of the year 2023 but a precise date has not yet been communicated.
