Object First Ootbi (Out-of-the-Box Immutability) is an S3 Object Storage backup appliance built and optimized for Veeam Backup & Replication.
To choose the right model, you can use the Backup Storage Calculator provided by Object First to estimate the size you may need to store your backups.
Object First offers six storage models, which can be selected based on the size of your organization:
- 20 TB
- 40 TB
- 64 TB
- 128 TB
- 192 TB
- 432 TB
You can combine available models to create a cluster up to 7 PB.
The Object First OOTBI main dashboard allows you to easily manage the entire cluster.

1. Security and Immutability
Object First OOBTI is an S3 Object Storage Linux-based device designed to store backups from Veeam Backupo & Replication providing the highest level of security. To enforce security, we Object First adopted the Zero Trust architecture design, separating the backup software from the backup storage.
This storage device offers immutability, which protects your backups from deletion, overwriting, and changes, ensuring they are safe from ransomware attacks.
2. Simple deployment and management
The installation of Object First OOTBI takes only few minutes, and the straightforward procedure reduces the risk of human error.
The intuitive GUI makes management easy, leveraging a user-friendly interface for creating S3 keys and buckets.
The upgrade process is also very easy. From the Settings > Cluster Update area, you can check for new updates. If an update is available, you will be notified automatically (you can also click Check updates to manually verify). Click Update cluster to apply the update.

3. High performance
Object First uses a high-performance architecture with NVMe caching and RAID 6 for data storage, enabling fast backups and rapid restores. This feature allows administrators to meet even the most restrictive RPO and RTO requirements.
OOBTI provides lightning-fast backup up to 8GB/s with automatic load balancing.
This is particularly beneficial for Instant VM Recovery, where you can run virtual machines directly from the backup storage with minimal latency.
4. Veeam integration
Specifically designed and built to meet Veeam's functional and performance requirements, the Object First OOTBI device is a Veeam Ready Repository. This ensures compatibility with key Veeam features like FastClone for synthetic full backups and Scale-Out Backup Repository (SOBR) for data tiering.
5. Scalable
Scalability is another key feature of the Object First solution. A cluster can be created with even a single node, and adding one or more nodes to increase capacity and performance does not require a complex reconfiguration.
When a new node is added to the cluster, the new capacity is automatically available to Veeam, and the total space can be used for backups without the burden of reconfiguring the backup strategy.
