HPE VM Explorer 6.5 released

HPE released the new VM Explorer 6.5, a VM backup and replication solution for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V environments.

The application comes in three editions:

  • Free Edition - the product is fully working with some limitations
  • Professional Edition - efficient backup/replication solution starter pack includes 4 physical CPU sockets, unlimited additional CPU sockets can be purchased.
  • Enterprise Edition - advanced backup, replication and recovery solution, starter pack includes 6 physical CPU sockets.

 

What's new

The new release 6.5 brings some new enhancements that make VM Explorer the right solution for SMBs and ROBOs.

 

HPE StoreOnce Catalyst support

VM Expolorer 6.5 introduces the support for the HPE StoreOnce Catalyst (firmware version 3.16.x or later) storage providing the capabilities to backup, copy backup (using Catalyst Copy) and restore.

To setup the new storage, select Storage System > Deduplicating Storage from main menu.

Click on Add a new HPE StoreOnce Catalyst storage button.

Insert a Display Name and specify the storage address with the correct credentials. Click Next.

If everything works as expected, the Test Connection Result field shows as result Success. Click Finish to save the configuration.

User Interface enhancements

Navigation and the user interface are constantly improved making the application intuitive and user friendly.

 

E-mail report

A new wizard to create an e-mail report has been introduced.

Access the E-mail Default Settings section from Admin > Settings menu to define the e-mail settings.

Got to Tasks > Scheduled Tasks to define the e-mail reporting settings. Select a configured task and click Add button on the right side.

Click the E-mail Report button under Other area.

Select Create e-mail report task using default settings option then click Next.

Check Sender & Receiver then click Next.

Check Server Settings and click Next.

Specify the Report Type and click Save.

Refresh VMs
Now you can refresh all Virtual Machines on your system by clicking the Refresh All button in Datacenter view.

Improved filtering capabilities

Backup and replication sessions can be now grouped depending on their type: full or incremental.

From main menu select Management > Backup Explorer or Replication Explorer and under Show area select which type of backups/replications you want to see.

Upgrade VM Explorer

If you have a previous release installed, when you open VM Explorer, a message informs you a new version is available.

Download HPE VM Explorer 6.5 and run the installer. Click Next to begin the installation. During the upgrade process all existing settings are retained.

Accept the EULA and click Next.

Leave default location then click Next.

Click Install to proceed with installation.

VM Explorer is being installed in the system.

When the installation has completed successfully, click Finish to exit the wizard.

Insert the correct credentials to access VM Explorer and click Login.
