The latest Veeam Backup & Replication v12.2 provides the capability to perform Proxmox VE backups for virtual machines running on this platform.
The provided backup and restore options align with the feature set already available for platforms supported by Veeam.
Add Proxmox to Veeam
From Veeam console, access the Backup infrastructure area, right click Manage Servers and select Add server.
Select Virtualization Platforms.
Select Proxmox VE.
Enter the Proxmox DNS name or IP address and optionally a Description, then click Next.
Add and select the Credentials with root privileges.
Click Yes to accept the SSH key fingerprint.
Select the Storage used to save snapshots and click Apply.
Required operations are being performed. Click Next when done.
Click Finish.

Once the Proxmox VE node has been added, the system prompts you to deploy a worker (aka proxy) to the added node. Click Yes to proceed.
Install Veeam worker to Proxmox VE
Required to perform the correct Proxmox VE backup operation, select the Host and type the Name of the worker to install. Select the Storage to use and click Next.
Click Add and specify the IP address to assign to the worker. Click OK to save the IP configuration.
Click Obtain automatically to configure the DNS. Enter the DNS server addresses and click OK.
Click Apply.
Enable Test the worker configuration when I click Finish option and click Finish.
The configured worker is being tested.
In the Proxmox VE console, the worker VM is powered on and verified by Veeam.
The configured worker has been added as Proxmox Backup Proxy.
Create a Backup Job
To test the Proxmox VE backup, you need to create a new Backup Job. Form Home area, right click Backup and select Backup > Virtual machine > Proxmox VE.
Enter the Backup Job Name and click Next.
Click Add and select the VM to backup. Click OK.
When the desired VMs have been added to the Virtual Machines to backup list, click Next.
Select the Backup repository to use and the Retention policy. Click Next.
Specify the desired Schedule and click Apply.
Select the Run the job when I click Finish option and click Finish to save the Backup Job configuration.

Run the Proxmox VE backup
The backup operation follows the typical Veeam backup procedure.
After a few minutes the Proxmox VE backup operation is completed successfully.
Select Disk under Backups to see the just created backup.
The restore options provided by Veeam allow to restore Proxmox VMs not only to the Proxmox VE environment but also to all supported environments.
