Nakivo released the new Backup & Replication 7.3 with the support for deduplication appliances increasing the backup speed up to 53X.
Version 7.3 provides a new special backup repository with an architecture optimized for deduplication appliances, such as NEC Hydrastor, EMC Data Domain, HP StoreOnce, and Quantum DXi.
Since deduplication appliances operate with sequential large block I/O from backup software, if the repository is not configured to handle this I/O type, VM backup may appear to be random I/O affecting the overall backup performance.
To optimize the backup performance, this special repository should be configured before backing up VM data to a deduplication appliance making the backup speed 53 times faster than the regular backup repository.
With the new release, Nakivo provides now two repository types:
- The regular backup repository optimized for generic storage systems (forever-incremental VM backups, global data deduplication and compression).
- The backup repository optimized for deduplication appliances (VM backups 53 times faster).
In addition, the new version now stores each backup in a separate folder for an easier manageability.
