Veeam released Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 2.0, the new version of the backup solution for Office 365 environment introducing the support for Microsoft SharePoint.
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 is now able to cover the business requirements in terms of data integrity and availability providing protection for the Office 365 environment, that is Exchange 365, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint.
Community Edition
Veeam introduces a new Community Edition license for Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365, a free version of the product with the following limitations:
- Up to 10 Exchange online users
- A maximum of 10 OneDrive for Business users associated with the same 10 Exchange online users
- Up to 1TB of SharePoint data protected
You can run the software using the Community Edition with the limit of 10 users.
What's new
Microsoft SharePoint support
With the new release, it's now possible to perform a granular restore of SharePoint items such as documents, calendars, libraries and lists or an entire site if requested. It's a solution that can be used also in a migration process or for an hybrid scenario.
Microsoft OneDrive for Business
Items in the OneDrive folder can be restored granularly using Veeam Explorer for Microsoft OneDrive for Business. Items can be restored to another OneDrive user or folder in OneDrive, or you can export files as an original or zip file.
GUI color
The console now provides the capability to change the GUI color as you like. From the console go to Settings > Color Theme and select the preferred color.
Compare mailbox items
With Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange, version 2.0 is able to compare mailbox items from the backup with the production environment to discover missing properties allowing to restore only requested properties without restoring the full mailbox.
Open Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange and expand Site and Mailbox to process. Access the item to compare (Inbox for example) then click Compare with Production option from main menu.
Enter the Office 365 Admin credentials then click Connect.
Right click the item to process and select Compare item properties.
The list of available properties is displayed.
Check for Updates
To keep the product always up to date, version 2.0 is now able to automatically check for updates. From the console, click the Settings icon and select General options.
To configure automatic updates check, go to Updates tab and enable both options then click Apply.
To manual check for Updates, click the Settings icon and select Upgrade.
Click Next to proceed.
The system checks for new updates and notify you if any is available.
PowerShell and Restful API
With the addition of the support for OneDrive for Business and SharePoint, a fully automation can be performed by either leveraging PowerShell or the Restful API.
Install Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 2.0
Download Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 2.0 from Veeam's website and run the installer. Click Next to start the setup wizard.
Accept the EULA then click Next.
Select the features you want to install then click Next.
Click Install to proceed with the installation.
The software is being installed in the system.
When the installation has completed successfully, click Finish to exit the wizard.
Run the software and click Connect to access the console.
You are prompted to insert the license key. If you don't have a valid license, click No to start the software as Community Edition with the limit of 10 users.

Once the main console has been installed, you can proceed with the installation of Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange and Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint to complete the setup.
