Vembu released the new Vembu BDRSuite v5.6 providing new features such as AD integration for Host addition, centralized backup for Mac and many others.
The new BDRSuite v5.6 introduces improvements to performance and stability as well as some enhancements to the whole software solution.

Vembu BDRSuite v5.6 what's new
The new version provides some new features and enhancements useful to cover modern business requirements in terms of data protection. Additional info can be found in the Release Notes.
Active Directory integration for Host addition
Windows, Linux or Mac hosts can now be imported from AD/LDAP servers speeding up the process of adding hosts as data sources for backup.
To take benefit of this new feature, from Data Sources tab select Add Microsoft Windows (or Add Linux) then click on Add Microsoft Windows button.
Select Import from AD/LDAP Server option and specify the AD/LDAP Server to use. Specify the required settings then click Next to continue with the configuration.
Centralized backup management for Mac
The Backup Server now supports the management of Mac endpoint backups simplifying the administrative process.
Backup Templates for Files/Folders Backup in Servers and Endpoints
To simplify the backup configuration process, administrators can now leverage backup templates to optimize the backup configuration procedure by limiting potential errors.
This feature is available for VMware, Hyper-V, Microsoft Windows (Disk Image) and Files & Folders Backup on Servers and Endpoints.
Multi-tenancy for File Servers and Endpoints
To improve flexibility and customization of the backup infrastructure making the management easier, version 5.6 provides multi-tenancy support also for File Servers and Endpoints.
Windows disk-image backup from Linux Backup Server
The Linux version of Backup Server now supports the disk image backup for Windows eliminating the need to separate clients.
Upgrade to BDRSuite v5.6
To avoid service disruption, it is recommended to have a look at the correct upgrade path and update sequence.
The upgrade process must follow the correct upgrade path to avoid potential issues.
- The direct update is supported only if you are running version 5.5.0.
- If your BDRSuite version is below v5.5.0, the upgrade path will be the following:
Before proceeding with the upgrade, you should consider the following:
- If you use the Offsite DR Server, then update this component first.
- If created Backup Jobs are configured using clients, update the BDRSuite Backup Server first then upgrade your clients.
Login to your Vembu portal and download the latest BDRSuite v5.6 based on the used platform (Windows, Linux).
Run the installer wizard. Click Next.
Accept the EULA and click Next.
Leave all products selected and click Next.
Click Install to proceed with the upgrade.
Click Yes to proceed.
The upgrade is being installed.
After a few minutes the upgrade completes. Click Finish to close the wizard.
Login to the Backup Server by entering the credentials then click Sign In.
At the top-right click the "?" symbol and select About Us.
The reported version is now 5.6.0. The upgrade procedure has been completed successfully.
