Configure VMware vSphere Replication

From Nakivo console, click the plus icon in the Jobs area and select Replication for VMware option.

Select the VMs to replicate and click Next.

Specify the Container, Datastore and VM folder as destination. Click Next.

If your DR Site has a different Network Mapping, thick the Enable network mapping to specify the correct network then click on the Create new mapping link.

From the drop-down menu, select Source network and Target network then click Save.

If Source network and Target networks are correct, click Next to continue.

If your DR Site has a different subnet, thick Enable Re-IP to specify the new subnet. Click Create new rule link.

Enter the requested network parameters then click Save.

Click Select VMs to apply the created Re-IP rule.

Select the correct VM and click Manage Credentials to specify the account used for Re-IP.

Click the + (plus) icon.

Specify Username and Password then click Add.

Click Close.

Select the just created Administrator account for the selected VM and click X to close the window.

Click Next to continue.

Configure the desired Schedule and click Next.

Specify the Retention and click Next.

Specify the Job Name and Replica Options. Click Finish to save the configuration.

From the Jobs area, right click the created Replication job and select Run.

Select Run for all VMs option and click Run.

The Replica is being executed.

After a few minutes, the operation is completed successfully.

In the DR vCenter Server you can see the created replica.

Replica Failover

If the production VM fails for any reason, with Nakivo Backup & Replication you can quickly recover the service by enabling its replica.

Select the Replication job, click Recover and select Replication failover for VMware.

Select the replica to activate, select the recovery point to use and click Next.

If your DR Site has a different Network Mapping, thick the Enable network mapping to specify the correct network then click Next.

If your DR Site has a different subnet, thick Enable Re-IP to specify the correct subnet. Click Next.

Enter the Job name and make sure to enable Power off source VMs option to avoid conflicts. Click Finish & Run.

Select Run for all VMs option and click Run.

The Replica Failover is being executed.

After a few minutes, the operation is completed successfully.

In the PROD vCenter Server the source VM has been powered off.

In the DR vCenter Server the replica is up and running. Also the Re-IP has been applied successfully.

Replica Failback

If the VMware vSphere Replication was triggered, once the Production Site is available again you may need to return the VM to production preserving all the changes occurred in the VM.

Select the Replication job, click Recover and select Replication failback for VMware.

Select the VM replica to failback and click Next.

Specify the Failback location. Nakivo Backup & Replication can Failback to two different locations:

  • Original location
  • New location

Select the desired location (Original location in the example) and click Next.

If the Production Site has a different Network Mapping, thick the Enable network mapping to specify the correct network then click Next.

If the Production Site has a different subnet, thick Enable Re-IP to specify the correct subnet. Click Next.

Enter the Job name and make sure to enable the Power off replica VMs to avoid conflicts. Click Finish & Run.

Select Run for all VMs option and click Run.

The Replica Failback is being executed.

After a few minutes, the operation is completed successfully.

In the PROD vCenter Server the original VM is fully working.

Leveraging Nakivo VMware vSphere Replication capability, failed VMs can be quickly recovered to the DR Site with a few clicks recovering all the services provided in a matter of seconds.
