The recent discovery of the biggest bug in computer history forced all organizations to take remedial action to prevent problems due to MeltDown and Spectre chip issues.
With this new update, Runecast Analyzer is now able to detect if ESXi hosts and vCenters of your infrastructure are affected by this bug.
Meltdown and Spectre
Meltdown and Spectre exploit critical vulnerabilities in modern processors. These hardware vulnerabilities allow programs to steal data which is currently processed on the computer.
Analyze the infrastructure
After updating Runecast Analyzer, access the Dashboard and click on Analyze Now button.
After few seconds, the analyzer completes the network scan reporting the detected issues.
From the Dashboard, click on Critical to check detected critical issues in your infrastructure.
In the Issue List, Runecast Analyzer reports the scanned infrastrcuture is affected by the MeltDown and Spectre chip issues.
Expanding the alert, you can get additional details of the problem. Apply the VMware ESXi host patches as soon as possible to ensure applications and user data cannot be compromised.
Update Runecast Analyzer
To update Runecast Analyzer, open your favorite browser and type the address https://IP_address:5480. Enter the correct credentials (default rcadmin/admin) then click Login.
Go to Update tab and check if a new version is available. Click Install Updates to proceed with Runecast update.
Click OK to confirm the installation.
The update is being installed.
The Runecast appliance has been updated successfully.
Since MeltDown and Spectre issue impacts Intel, AMD and ARM chips, it is realistic to suppose almost all computers are affected by the issue.
