Nakivo v11 was recently released introducing agentless support for Proxmox, NAS backup, Federated Repository and Backup to Cloud for M365.
This major release comes with new and interesting features that further extends the set of capabilities of Nakivo Backup & Replication.
What's new in Nakivo v11
This major release introduces important new features that strengthen Nakivo Backup & Replication position in the market.
Agentless backup for Proxmox VE
In Nakivo v11, VMs running on Proxmox platform can be now protected at the host level without the need to install agents on each VM. By leveraging the CBT technology, after the first full backup, subsequent backups are incremental.
Proxmox backups can be stored to different backup repositories, including local storage, CIFS and NAS shares, Tape, Deduplication appliances and S3-compatible storage devices. To comply with the 3-2-1 backup rule, backup copies can be created to send data to offsite locations.
Recovery operations support the entire VM restore as well as granular restore of files and folders to their original or a different location. Immutability and encryption can be enable to enhance data protection.
Backup to cloud for Microsoft 365
Protection for Microsoft 365 (former Office 365) first introduced in version 9.2 has been enhanced with new storage destinations with automated backup tiering.
In addition to local folders, with Nakivo v11 Microsoft 365 backups can now be sent to new storage targets:
- Amazon S3, Wasabi, Azure Blob, Backblaze B2
- S3-compatible storage platforms
- NFS and SMB shares
- Deduplication appliances
Immutability feature can also be enabled for the supported targets enforcing the protection against ransomware.
Leveraging the job chaining feature, backup copies can be sent to supported storage destinations including tape media.
NAS backup
The supported target repositories for storing backups of data from SMB and NFS file shares hosted on NAS devices have been extended to include the following new destinations:
- Amazon S3, Wasabi, Azure Blob, Backblaze B2
- S3-compatible storage platforms
- Local folders
- Other NFS and SMB shares
- Deduplication appliances
Immutability can also be enabled for local and cloud repositories.
In Nakivo v11, Backup Copy and job chaining capabilities can now be used also to create and move backup copies between different storage locations and tapes.
Source-Side backup encryption
To protect the privacy of data backups, Nakivo v11 offers the capability to encrypt backups at the source side before they are transferred and stored supporting the AWS KMS integration ensuring data availability in case of key loss.
Also self-backup can be encrypted to protect the system configurations.
Federated Repository
Federated Repository is a solution that allows a pool of standalone repositories to be grouped into a single logical storage unit offering a flexible and scalable option.
Data can be backed up to and recovered from a Federated Repository even if one member becomes full or inaccessible.
Backup from NetApp storage snapshots
Added the support for NetApp FAS and NetApp AFF storage arrays that allows you to create VM backups from storage snapshots.
Nakivo already includes the support for HPE 3PAR, Nimble Storage, Primera and Alletra storage devices.
Additional Enhancements
- Tenant overview dashboard - version 11 offers a new dashboard to the MSP Console that provides a convenient overview of all managed tenants in a single location.
- NEC HYDRAstor - added the support of this storage as target device.
- Real-Time replication - added the support for VMware vSphere 8.0.
- Spanish interface - the Nakivo GUI is now fully available also in Spanish.
