Vembu BDRSuite v5.3 what's new


Vembu released the new Vembu BDRSuite v5.3, the software backup solution for VMware and Hyper-V that comes with some new features such as the support for Azure Blob, Active Directory integration and File Server backup.

Designed to protect VMware and Hyper-V environments, the BDRSuite provides the most requested features by backup administrators to protect virtual and also physical machines installed in the infrastructure.



Vembu BDRSuite v5.3 what's new

Version 5.3 provides the following new features:


File Server backup

Version 5.3 provides now the support for file and folder level backup for Windows and Linux file servers centralizing the management from the BDRSuite Backup Server. Backup agents can be manually installed or pushed from the Backup Server.

To backup a file server, go to Data Sources and select Add Microsoft Windows.


Click on Add Microsoft Windows button.


Enter the IP Address/DNS Name and Credential for the server to protect and specify the Install BBA (backup agent) mode. Click Save to save the configuration.


Same capability is also available to protect Linux file servers. Just select Data Source > Add Linux option to proceed.



Azure Blob as Backup Repository

Azure Blob can now be configured as target repository for backup and backup copy jobs.

To configure an Azure Blob repository, select Backup Server > Object Storage.


Click Create New Object Storage Repository.


Enter the Repository Name and select Azure Blob Storage as Repository Type. Specify the Credential to connect the Azure Blob and select the Container to store the backup. Click Create to create the repository.



Integrity check on VMware ESXi Server

To test the recoverability of the backed up machines, it is now possible to automate the boot test on VMware ESXi hosts.

From Backup menu, select Configure Backup Settings > Data Integrity option.


Enable Integrity check for VMs/Disk Images switch and select VMware as Target Hypervisor. Specify the requested parameters then click Update to save the configuration.



Endpoint Backup

Files and folders backup of Windows and Linux Endpoints can now be configured directly from the Backup Server console. Backup agents can be manually installed or pushed from the backup server. Multiple endpoints can be also added using the CSV file.

To configure files and folders backup, select Backup > Configure Backup > Microsoft Windows > Files & Folders.


Click on Files/Folders Selection and Exclusions button.


Select Files and Folders to backup.



Active Directory integration

For users management, Active Directory can now be integrated into the Backup Server to import or add users from Active Directory. Levels of access to the Backup Server can be specified for each user.

To configure Active Directory integration, select Backup Server > AD/LDAP Server option.


Click Add AD/LDAP Servers button.


Enter the Server Name/IP Address of the Domain Controller, the Domain and the Credential. Click Save to save the configuration.


The specified Domain Controller has been added successfully to BDRSuite.


Now go to Backup Server and select Users.


Select AD/LDAP User as User Type and the configured domain from the Select Domain field. Click the Select User drop-down menu to specify the user to configure.


The Active Directory users are now listed. Select the user to configure, grant the required permission from the Select Access Privilege drop-down menu then click Add User.
