Veeam Backup for Office 365 3.0 is the latest version of the backup solution designed to protect Office 365 environment: mailboxes, SharePoint and OneDrive for Business.
While Microsoft responsability is to keep the Office 365 infrastructure healthy and fully working, customers are responsible for data stored in such infrastructure. If a mailbox item is deleted or corrupted Microsoft can't recover such data.
What's new in Veeam Backup for Office 365 3.0
Product licensed per user, the new version 3.0 comes with the following new features:
Backup enhancement
SharePoint and OneDrive for Business incremental backups speed is now up to 30 times faster with the native Change API for Microsoft Office 365. Through PowerShell or RESTful API is now possible to perform a granular backups/restores including or escluding specific OneDrive folders from/to a backup.
Multi-factor authentication
In addition to basic authentication, an extra layer of security has been added with the support for the multi-factor authentication (MFA). Since MFA is the default authentication method for Office 365 environment, Veeam Backup for Office 365 is now able to access Office 365 securely leveraging multiple verification capability and making backups and restores more secure.
Internet Proxy support
In version 3.0, the Internet Proxies management has been added as an option directly in the GUI. Proxies can be also managed via PowerShell and RESTful API.
Reports
Version 3.0 comes with a set of three reports that provide a better overview of the infrastructure in use showing unprotected Office 365 user mailboxes, storage usage and managed license. Click Reports on main menu and select the desired report.
Mailbox Protection
This report provide info about protected and unprotected mailboxes giving a visibility of your Office 365 mailboxes.
Select Reports > Mailbox Protection from main menu.
Specify the path to store the report in PDF format through the Browse button then click OK.

Storage Consumption
Useful to keep repository storage space under control, this report provdes an overview of storage consumption as well as daily change rate and growth of data backup per repository.
Select Reports > Storage Consumption from main menu.
Specify the reporting interval and the path to store the report in PDF format through the Browse button. Click OK.

License Overview
It provides info about license usage for each protected user.
Select Reports > License Overview from main menu.
Specify the reporting interval and the path to save the report in PDF format through the Browse button. Click OK.

Auto-scaling repository databases
For large environments, version 3.0 simplifies the storage management by overcoming the 64 TB file size limit of the Microsoft’s Extensible Storage Engine (ESE). When the limit is reached, a new database is automatically created in the repository (picture from Veeam).

Community Edition
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 is available also as a free edition - Community Edition - that provides backup and recovery features for Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business. This edition has some constraints with the limit to 10 users and 1 TB of SharePoint data.
