
VMs protected by regular backups can leverage Veeam Recovery Orchestrator (VRO) Recovery Plans to automate the restore action in case of a disaster.
Regular backups can be used by VRO to orchestrate the required recovery operations to restore services in case of a source VM failure or a disaster in the Production Site.

Create Recovery Plans for Backups
Login to Veeam Recovery Orchestrator and access the Recovery Plans section. Select Manage > New to create a new Recovery Plan.
Assign a Plan Name and optionally a Description. Click Next.
Select Restore as Plan Type. This option allows to recover VMs from backups. Click Next.
Select the appropriated Recovery Location previously created and click Next.
In the Inventory Groups section, select from Available Groups the Backup Job configured in Veeam Backup & Replication at Production Site and click Add. When the plan group has been added, click Next to continue. Next steps are the same as the configuration procedure done for replica.
When the plan configuration has been saved, the plan is displayed in the Recovery Plans section. Make sure the State is set to Verified.
Run the Recovery Plan
Select the created Recovery Plan and enable it by selecting Manage > Enable, then right click the plan and select Run.
Enter the requested Administrator Password and click Next.
The Result must be reported as Success to continue. Click Next.
Select the Recovery Location created for Backups and click Next.
Specify the Restore Point to use and click Next.
If you want to scan the restore points for possible malware before restoring, enable Check malware flags on a maximum of XX restore points option and click Next. If this option is enabled, the recovery will take longer to complete.
Click Finish to run the Recovery Plan.
The Restore operation runs recovering the VMs added to the plan.
In Veeam Backup & Replication the Restore operation is being executed.
After a few seconds the Restore process completes successfully.
In the DR vCenter Server the restored VMs are up and running.
Reset the Recovery Plan
To stop the Recovery Plan, right click the plan and select Manage > Reset.
Enter the Administrator Password and click Next.
Enable Perform a Quick Check after reset is complete and click Next.
Click Finish to reset the plan.
The reset process is applied to the selected plan.
Recovery Plans for Replica, Agents and Backups must be run when source VMs fails or the entire Production Site fails because recovered VMs become Production VMs once powered on.
Part 7 will cover the procedure to run Recover Plans in Data Labs for testing purposes without impacting the Production.
